Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty that mainly affects reading, writing and spelling. It varies in severity and presents in difficulties with processing word sounds. Its effects can be evident in both spoken and written language.
Students diagnosed with this specific learning difficulty are provided for at REM+ Tuition with teaching that follows the Hickey Method. This is a structured, multi-sensory learning program in which reading, spelling, grammar and writing skills are taught. There is an emphasis on learning in sequence the sounds (phonemes) in words, using a small card system. Continual practice and reinforcement of these and other skills is essential for students successfully to decode words and to read and spell independently.
Students attend two in a group.
A screening checklist is used to assist parents to identify the symptoms of dyslexia. Testing by an Educational Psychologist is recommended. REM+ Tuition does not test for dyslexia but we nevertheless specialise in teaching children with these difficulties.
